TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Regarding various cases of bullying on social media, The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK) reminds parents to prevent bullying behaviour, starting from the family.

"Let's prevent the practice of bullying by strengthening the role of the family to support children's mental health," said Agus Suprapto, the Deputy of Coordination of Health Quality Improvement and Population Development in the Kemenko PMK.

Agus explained that Kemenko PMK is currently continuing to intensify the National Action Plan to Improve the Welfare of Children and Teenagers. One of the goals is to ensure the health of Indonesian youth, both physically and mentally. It is feared that the practice of bullying will have an unfavourable impact on mental or psychological development among the young.

"Thus, Kemenko PMK will continue to work to prevent bullying practices, one of which is through strengthening education and socialization regarding mental revolution," he explained.

Mental Revolution

Through this mental revolution, the government hopes that a school environment that promotes fun and free violence will be materialized to support the optimal growth and development of children, to be physically and mentally healthy. To maintain the physical and mental health of their children, parents need to ensure that their children receive balanced nutritional food as well as love and assistance.

"Apart from ensuring that children consume healthy and nutritious food, parents also need to invite children to have a conversation and also accompany them, especially when accessing social media to protect from content or games that contain violence," he explained.

He also added that with the active role of parents and all related parties, it is hoped that the child's health, both physically and mentally, will be well maintained and contribute to efforts to prevent practices of bullying.

Meanwhile, family psychologist Ketti Murtini reminded parents that they need to shape their children's character from an early age so they don't become perpetrators of bullying. Parents and other family members need to accompany growth and development and shape the character of children from an early age so they don't have bullying behaviour or become victims.
