TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bogor Police arrested a woman with the initials SAN, an alleged scammer, that caused hundreds of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students to become entangled in online loans.

"We are still investigating the suspect (SAN). It has led to one name of another (suspect)," said Bogor Police Chief Iman Imanuddin, in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, Thursday, November 17, 2022.

He mentioned the arrest of suspect SAN, which was made after the police examined several testifiers who said they were trapped in an online loan with an investment in an online store.

The Bogor Police is still investigating the case and has not been able to reveal in detail the chronology of SAN's arrest and its role in the activities that reportedly have caused billions of rupiah in losses.

Iman said he was still delving into whether other people assisted SAN in organizing these activities. Is the other person active and aware of the investment offer from the start? "If it can be fulfilled, then they can also be subject as an accomplice," said Iman.

Previously, the Bogor Police received two official reports and 29 complaints filed by 311 students of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) who claimed to have been trapped in online loans after making investments in an online shop as they were offered a 10-percent profit. But the students did not get the promised benefit.

The total money involved amounted to Rp2.1 billion. As for the investment scheme, SAN reportedly offered collaboration online with a profit-sharing of 10 percent per month.

The requirement was that the victims must apply for online loans. In total, there were five online loan platforms used by the students. The loan money was then transferred to SAN.

It turned out that SAN did not pay the profit to the students as promised. To date, IPB students are obliged to pay back the loan.
