Fathers Play Strategic Role in Improving Parenting Quality, Says KPAI

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the National Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Susanto said that fathers play a strategic role in improving the quality of parenting to support the growth and development of children.

"National Father's Day, which is celebrated every November 12, is the right momentum to improve the quality of childcare," he remarked on Sunday.

Susanto explained that proportional involvement of mothers and fathers will support the creation of family with good a quality family, leading to parenting styles with good quality.

"Fathers are educators and protectors for children. Fathers are a value reference for children. So, be a figure loved by children," he said.

Susanto added that the example set by the father would also facilitate the child's character and behavior shaping.

"Therefore, fathers must play a role in setting an example, be a warm presence for children, not a distant figure. Be a figure whose presence is always expected, not someone who is unwanted around children," he said.

He reminded the importance of psychological bond between parents and their children.

"Parents: not only need to be physically close to their children, but also psychologically close," he mentioned.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture emphasizes that fathers played an important role in setting an example and supporting children's growth and development of children.

Acting deputy for coordinating education quality improvement and religious moderation at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Aris Darmansyah Edisaputra said that National Father's Day, which is  celebrated every November 12, became reminder of fathers' important role in supporting children's development.

He explained that father was an example and role model for all family members.

"Thus, father's role is very big, (ranging from) the formation of children's character, children's behavior, to encourage religious education for their children so that they grow into a superior and (high) quality generation," he concluded.
