Lion Air Flight Returns to Airport; AirNav Denies Fire at Wings

26 October 2022 22:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Lion Air plane flight JT330 heading to Palembang returned to base, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, after 30 minutes of flying today, October 26, 2022.

“The plane just took off then the pilot reported a technical reason to the ATC (Air Traffic Control) officer and asked for RTB (return to base),” said Endaryono, the general manager of state-owned air navigation firm AirNav Indonesia, to Tempo on Wednesday night.

According to him, the plane had been in the air for about 30 minutes and made one turn, then landed safely at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Based on the observations of ATC officers, he explained, there was no damaged part of the plane, let alone fire. “Regarding issues of fire at the wings of the aircraft, AirNav observes that there is no [such incident],” Endaryono underlined.

He further explained that the plane landed again on Runway 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport at around 17:15 Jakarta time.

Lion Air's spokesperson Danang Mandala Prihantoro has yet to respond to Tempo's request for confirmation regarding the incident.
