TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Heavy rain falling in Bogor and the vicinity caused an increasing water level at the Katulampa Dam gate to level three alert at 130 centimeters high. The people living in the Ciliwung river banks were asked to maintain vigilance to anticipate unwanted events, such as floods, as several regions had set disaster-alert status.

"Rain is monitored to keep pouring in Puncak, the upstream of Ciliwung. Currently, Katulampa (Dam) is at level 3 alert. Residents must be alert and prepared for disasters," said Katulampa Dam gatekeeper coordinator, Andi Sudirman, to Tempo on Saturday, October 15.

Andi said the water increased swiftly since the rain fell in the afternoon at around 16:20. That meant, Andi went on, the rain fell evenly from Bogor area, as the upstream of Ciliwung, to the downstream areas such as Depok and Jakarta.

In addition, there is the possibility of an increasing water level at Katulampa. Residents living on the banks or near of Ciliwung river must be cautious of flooding. They are also urged to be aware of other possible effects caused by the rainfall these days.

"We call on the people to remain alerted and be careful as the rains not only fall on the upstream. But nearly all of Bogor area and the vicinity are raining. The rain also possibly showered Depok, Jakarta, and Bekasi. Any possible impacts must be anticipated," Andi explained.
