TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Old Town (Kota Tua) was finally reopened after undergoing a lengthy period of revitalization. According to the city’s governor Anies Baswedan, this new version of the area can be compared to a future town.
Anies called the area 'Batavia'. "So this is the re-opening of Jakarta's Old Town. We will call the Old Town area Batavia, after its original name," Anies said at Kota Tua on Monday, September 11, 2022.
Anies expressed his intentions to have Kota Tua's name reflect the past and at the same time having its concept show signs of a modern city. "That's what was being built," Anies said.
Kota Tua is designed to present a tourist area that accommodates pedestrians, oriented toward active and equal mobility for all, and is environmentally friendly or low-emissions. Anies encouraged visitors to come using integrated public transportation such as KRL or Transjakarta because the new Kota Tua does not provide visitors with parking lots for private vehicles.
