TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cybersecurity observer Doni Ismanto Darwin said that the hacking that took place in recent days, mainly the one committed by a hacker named Bjorka, is becoming more and more familiar as a result of weak digital law enforcement in Indonesia.
Doni, who is also the founder of the IndoTelko Forum, believed that the government failed to implement transparency in data breach cases.
"The government is not transparent in handling the data that are leaked. No cases ended up with substantial solutions. In the end, data managers perceive it as business as usual," said Doni to Tempo on Monday, September 12, 2022.
Doni also argued that the government never viewed personal data as an important aspect of big data. "Because we never consider the data to be important," Doni added.
The Bjorka terror, a moment to reflect
A self-proclaimed hacker by the name Bjorka claims to have 679,180 documents worth 40 MB of compressed data that the hacker published at breached.to.
On September 6, 2022, Bjorka is also suspected of leaking and selling 105 million population data. Bjorka claims the data includes NIK, family card or KK, full name, place, and date of birth, gender, address, and age.
In response to the incident, Doni argued that at this time the leak is believed to be true. However, it is not clear exactly where the source of the leak came from. "It has been acknowledged that there are some valid data, so it does exist. What is not clear is where the leak is," Doni said.
Doni also called for the Indonesian government to stop wasting time by denying or throwing blame on other government agencies and instead encouraged government instances to collaborate in detecting where the weakness in the system lies and work on fixing the issue.
"There will only be more Bjorkas in the future," Doni warned.
