TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry kick-started the second COVID-19 booster vaccination today, July 29, 2022. However, it is only for health workers who are considered vulnerable to dealing with another COVID-19 wave.
The ministry delivered the circular to the regions and leaders of health facilities to administer vaccines that have received the Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
“The second booster dose is given at an interval of six months from the first booster dose,” as read in the Circular Letter Number HK.02.02/C/3615/2022 signed by the Health Ministry’s Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
In the circular, it was explained that the second booster shot was given following the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country. The Health Ministry also considered the recommendations of the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI).
However, the Health Ministry has not yet confirmed when the second booster dose will be given to the public.
