Jokowi Departs for China, Japan, South Korea In East Asia Foreign Visit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, according to an official statement on Monday, July 25, 2022, is scheduled to depart for Beijing to mark the beginning of a series of foreign state visits to East Asian countries that have become Indonesia’s economic strategic partners; China, Japan, and South Korea.
"The three countries are ASEAN crucial partners and important in the context of the G20," said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in a statement on Monday, July 25, 2022.
According to Minister Retno, President Jokowi is scheduled to meet with the leaders of the three countries to discuss partnerships in trade, investment, healthcare, infrastructure, fisheries, and a plethora of global issues. Jokowi will hold meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korean President Seok-yeol.
Aboard a Garuda Indonesia flight, the President's entourage departed the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Tangerang at 2:00 pm and will arrive in Beijing in roughly seven hours. Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno are already in Beijing to prepare for the President's arrival.
The President's East Asian work visit follows the previous European state visit where the President met Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
