TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The participants of the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG) had started to arrive at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang City, Banten Province, the state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II said.

"In welcoming the arrivals of athletes and officials of the 11th APG, PT AP II has coordinated with various parties, especially the Indonesian ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee (INASPOC), to ensure their arrivals go well," the company's president director, Muhammad Awaluddin, said in a statement on Sunday.

The sporting event for the athletes with disabilities will be held in Surakarta City, Central Java Province, from July 30 to August 6, 2022. Meanwhile, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport served as a transit airport before the participants continue their journey to the host city.

The president director of PT AP II said that his party would provide the best hospitality to give a great impression to athletes and officials when they arrived in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Agus Haryadi said a number of assistance and facilities had been prepared to welcome the participants who were scheduled to arrive on July 19-30, 2022.

To date, around 100 athletes and officials of the sporting event have arrived out of the estimated of a total of 1,800 participants of the event.

Once completing the health screening as well as immigration and customs processes, the participants will be assisted for a transit to Terminal 1, Terminal 2, or Terminal 3 of the airport to continue the flights to Surakarta City.

A number of facilities for the participants have been prepared, including low-deck bus which can be used by wheelchair users, fast lane system for the disabled people at security check point, priority seats at each departure gate, golf cars, as well as elevators, stairs, and toilets for people with disabilities.

"In addition, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has also readied special personnel to support the INASPOC," Haryadi informed.

He added that his party also assisted to promote the convening of the 11th ASEAN Para Games by disseminating information on the event on digital banners and videos at the passenger terminals.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is one of the airports with the most complete facilities for disabled people in Indonesia. The provision of services for the disabled people at AP II airports adheres to the Regulation of the Transportation Minister Number 98 of 2017 concerning the Provision of Assistance in Public Transportation Services for Users with Special Needs.
