TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights granted remissions for the 2022 National Children's Day to 1,028 child prisoners at Child Correctional Institutions (LPKA) throughout Indonesia. Some 998 children received National Children's Day Remission I (RAN I) and 30 children received National Children's Day Remission II (RAN II), or free immediately.

“The remission is our effort to protect them as the future of the nation. One of the ways is through children's integration process and reducing the psychological burden while living in LPKA,” said the coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, in a written statement, Saturday, July 23.

Of all the recipients of RAN I,  746 children received remission for 1 month, 128 children received a 2-month remission, 114 children got 3-month remission, and 10 children got a 4-month remission. Meanwhile, of 30 children who got type II remission, 25 children received 1-month remission, 2 children got 2-month remission, 2 children got 3-month remission, and 1 child received 4-month remission.

Rika said that the correctional institution grants national children's day remission (RAN) to the children, who met all requirements, annually. “We hope through the granting of RAN will motivate the recipient to be a better person and those who are still in the LPKA can continue the program with a more enthusiastic feeling,” she said.

Rika said that the ranks of the Directorate General of Corrections are trying to ensure that children in the Child Correctional Institution still get their rights even though they are in a limited space. Various activities are carried out at LPKA to support the development of children. Until now, there are 1,819 child prisoners and fostered children throughout Indonesia.
