TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Cipinang Class 1 penitentiary, M. Pithra Jaya Saragih announced that Rizieq Shihab, or Muhammad Rizieq Shihab bin Husein Shihab, has been granted parole and is free to conduct positive activities outside of prison as of July 20.
“He’s free to do positive activities (including public sermons) as long as the sermon does not contain violation,” said Jaya on July 20 to Tempo.
He confirmed that Rizieq Shihab will continue to participate in ongoing guidance from the Correctional Center (Bapas) which is an institution to carry out guidance for Correctional clients. Shihab was incarcerated at the Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) prison since the East Jakarta Court verdict was produced.
The Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Rika Aprianti, stated that with this conditional free status, since July 20, Habib Rizieq has become a client of the Bapas. As a client, it means that individuals must undergo guidance until June 23, 2024. During that time, the person concerned must report once a month to the Central Jakarta Bapas headquarters
"Following the guidance program, if you have good behavior if you commit a crime, the parole will be revoked, supervision will be carried out by the Attorney General's Office," said Rika.
