TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier AirAsia has reopened the flight with the route of Banda Aceh-Kualanamu, North Sumatra. The operation of this route had been halted during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Today is the moment we've been waiting for to serve the people of Aceh,” said AirAsia Indonesia CEO, Veranita Yosephine, on Saturday, June 4.
Veranita said that it is the contribution of AirAsia to the public to give alternative transportation at an affordable price.
She said that the reopening of the route was based on the inputs of the Aceh public delivered on social media. “Thank you to the people of Aceh for the expressions and publicity that developed on the mass media, so we were motivated to be back in Aceh," he said.
Chief of Aceh Transportation Department Teuku Faisal said that along with the decreasing Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, public interest to travel is increased, including in Aceh. The local government recorded 294,287 people traveling from and to Aceh during the Eid 2022 transport period (D-7 until D+7).
Of the number, 23,466 were air travelers. Faisal mentioned various complaints of the Aceh people regarding the small frequency of flights from and to Aceh, which resulted in the high tariff of flights from and to Aceh.
“With the service from AirAsia, the people now have alternative flights and get the chance to fly comfortably and with a more affordable price,” Faisal remarked.
