Setara Institute Deems DPR Justifying Any Means for Job Creation Law

25 May 2022 21:54 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHuman rights group Setara Institute criticized the House of Representatives (DPR) for ratifying Revised Law No. 12 of 2011 concerning the drafting of laws and regulations (RUU PPP).

“The government justifies any means in order to keep the Job Creation Law, including by revising the law. We lament the act carried out by the DPR and the government that makes a fallacy or errors in thinking,” said Setara in its official statement received by Tempo on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

The Constitutional Court, as noted in its ruling No. 91/PUU-XVIII/2020, declared that the Job Creation Law is conditionally unconstitutional given that the omnibus law method was not regulated in the system of the drafting of laws.

Instead of correcting a number of problematic articles, Setara observed that the government and the DPR revised the PPP Law by including the omnibus law method. To date, Setara deems that the government and the DPR have failed to understand the public's objection to the Job Creation Law.

Therefore, Setara urged the DPR and the government to reconsider the use of the omnibus method in the PPP bill. Setara also encouraged the public to participate in monitoring the revision of the Job Creation Law.

Setara Institute is not alone in rejecting the bill ratification. The Labor Party along with the labor unions planned to stage a huge demonstration on June 8, 2022. The Labor Party president Said Iqbal stated that the rally will be held simultaneously in various regions and will be centered in the offices of the local regional heads.
