Travelers Throng Lombok Airport amid MotoGP Race Weekend

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-airport operator Angkasa Pura I on Friday announced that the number of air travelers destined for Lombok International Airport during the MotoGP race weekend had increased by 100 percent from March 17 up to March 21.
“The peak return flow of travelers is expected to take place on Monday, March 21, with a total number of passengers reaching 11 thousand people,” said Angkasa Pura I VP corporate secretary Handy Heryudhitiawan on March 18.
The Mandalika Circuit currently hosts the second race in the MotoGP calendar with the main race taking place on March 20.
According to the data by Angkasa Pura I on Thursday, the number of passengers at the airport, located in Central Lombok, reached 8,241 people. This is a 134 percent increase compared to flights during the pandemic and before the MotoGP event that usually logs only 3,500 people per day.
"Most of the flights come from Jakarta with 19 flights while seven flights each from Surabaya and Bali," said Handy.
