TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy Alexander Marwata said that the Jakarta provincial government's potential budget leak is among the highest compared to other Indonesian regions. Alexander puts the blame on the capital city's large regions budget (APBD).
"The potential leak is certainly because of the equally large regional budget," said Marwata in his acceptance speech for a government employee training event at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, March 17, 2020, Antaranews reported.
Currently, Jakarta's regional budget is equal to Banten, West Java, and Central Java combined.
Alexander said that KPK has mapped out sectors that are prone to potential leaks - or potential corruption - which cover the goods and services procurement, permits, and transactions linked to positions in office. Jakarta's budget for procurement of goods and services alone amounts to roughly IDR 80 trillion.
According to Alexander, the Jakarta Government provides education regarding integrity for families of city officials, which he deemed essential.
In the event, Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria hopes that the integrity training program will help city government employees to be free from corruption and graft. "Jakarta does have such a large budget, which is quite tempting for all ranks. We are grateful, thank God that so far the officials are still able to carry out their duties well," said the deputy.
