Jokowi to Lead 'Kendi Nusantara' Ritual in Zero Point of New Capital

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is scheduled to lead the Kendi Nusantara ritual in which combining water and soil taken from 34 Indonesian provinces at the zero point of the new capital city or IKN Nusantara at around 09:45 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) today, March 14. The water and soil were previously brought by governors of each province.
“Each governor brings soil and water which are taken from their respective areas that are based on local wisdom and culture,” said Presidential Secretariat Head Heru Budi Hartono in his statement.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, for example, brought soil from the site of the Majapahit Kingdom Palace for the ritual.
Heru explained that the state head will combine the water and soil into a jug before pouring it into the capital area. According to him, there will also be a mass prayer with traditional leaders, hoping the Nusantara development project will run smoothly.
In addition, Heru said they will plant trees together in the area of the kilometer zero-point monument. Each governor will plant a typical tree of their respective region.
In the evening, Jokowi is scheduled to camp at the site for the new capital of Nusantara, which is currently under construction in East Kalimantan. He will be accompanied by the Head and Deputy of the IKN Authority Bambang Susantono and Dhony Rahajoe, as well as several ministers and five governors of Kalimantan.
