TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Java-Bali Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) Coordinator Luhut Pandjaitan in a press statement on Monday said the number of COVID-19 cases logged in the capital city of Jakarta is tending to drop and has passed the peak of the transmission wave.
Luhut, who is also the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, explained the data were backed by the number of daily cases, active cases, and hospitalization compared to the Delta outbreak.
“Not only the number of cases, the rate of hospitalizations in the provinces of Java and Bali are largely lower than the Delta wave,” said Pandjaitan.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin echoed Luhut’s statement, saying Jakarta and five other provinces have passed the peak of Omicron transmission. He predicted Jakarta will start to see the rate of cases decline this week.
“Based on our observation, Jakarta will likely reach its peak this month and then start to drop after that,” said the Health Minister.
The Jakarta Health Agency’s data show a dropping trend within the past three days as Friday (February 11) logged 5,311 active case drops followed by another 4,921 drop in COVID-19 cases on Sunday (February 14).
