TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno will consider plans to reopen Aceh for foreign tourists, especially from Malaysia, where there is high interest to Aceh. During the pandemic, Aceh has been closed for international arrivals.
Sandiaga Uno is waiting for letters, either from the Aceh Government or the Aceh House of Representatives for consideration regarding the pandemic conditions in Aceh, before opening the tourist gates for foreign tourists.
"We will use the letters for consideration at the next evaluation meeting," Sandiaga during a visit to Nusa Tourism Village in Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar, October 20.
Sandiaga said he heard complaints from the public regarding the decline in foreign tourist visits to the 'Veranda of Mecca' during the pandemic. Especially tourists from Malaysia, whose decline reached more than 70 percent.
Sandiaga explained that Indonesia had reopened Bali and the Riau Islands for foreign tourists since October 14. The same opportunity can be obtained by other regions in Indonesia if their Covid-19 situations improve.
