TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the provincial government through the city-run public transportation system operator JakLingko was set to integrate tariffs of public transportation. He added that it would be possible to differentiate the tariffs once the integration process is completed so that the government will be able to apply different fares for passengers.
According to Anies, such a system has been implemented in many developed countries where transport fees are lower for veterans, retirees, and students. “We can apply the system for teachers, retired teachers, and people who have contributed [to the nation],” said Anies while attending the Jabodetabek Transportation Integration Inauguration event at Tebet Station on Wednesday, September 29.
Anies hoped the system could provide a sense of justice to its passengers. Public transportation could be a symbol of appreciation for those who have contributed to the city.
Anies inaugurated four projects today, such as the renovation of Tebet and Palmerah Stations, the launching of Dukuh Atas pedestrian bridge project, the soft launching of the ticketing system and super app JakLingko, and the signing of the Jabodetabek transportation integration agreement. SOE Minister Erick Thohir and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi also attended the event.
According to Anies Baswedan, the projects would make Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek on par with other developed cities. Anies also thanked the two ministers for their full support. “Without your contribution, this will not happen,” he said.
