TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Train will start operating commercially on Friday, September 17. The train will serve eight trips a day from the airport to Yogyakarta City or vice versa.
“Four trips from Yogyakarta Station and four trips from YIA,” said Director General of Railways Zulfikri on Thursday, September 16.
The government has set the official tariff for airport train tickets. For the YIA-Yogyakarta route and the Wates-YIA route or vice versa, the ticket is set at Rp20,000. Meanwhile, for the Yogyakarta-Wates route, it is Rp10,000.
People can purchase the ticket through the KAI Access application or directly at counters available in Yogyakarta Station, Wates, and YIA Airport Train Station. Prior to the commercial operation, the government had conducted a trial run on September 1-16. The train ran for free during the trial period.
The airport train could shorten the travel time to YIA to about 40 minutes from Yogyakarta. Previously, it took about 1.5 hours to reach the new airport using a car or other modes of transportation.
Zulfikri explained that during the trial period, the airport train had served 3,646 passengers. “I hope people of Yogyakarta can take advantage of the YIA Airport Train for their mobility to and from the airport or for other daily activities,” he said.
