TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson for Indonesian COVID-19 task force, Reisa Broto Asmoro, conveyed clarification on a number of hoaxes related to Coronavirus disease and vaccination that emerge in the society. In a talkshow held virtually on Friday night, August 27, Reisa said that one of the fake information was the chip injected into human body through COVID-19 vaccines.

"This myth has developed a lot since many still don't understand what's contained in the vaccine. Actually, be it the US, Europe, China-made [vaccines], all of them have the same international standard," she said.

The following is the list of hoaxes and myths related to the Coronavirus disease:

1. Chip in Covid-19 Vaccines

Reisa explained that a vaccine only contains the virus components and materials that make the vaccine last longer in the body. There is no chip in it.

2. Smoking Tackles Covid-19

Reisa said that smoking could worsen body's condition, even smokers are prone to coronavirus. It also have potential to transmit droplets in surrounding area, especially in rooms with bad circulation.

3. Children Immune to Coronavirus Disease

The number of children who died of Covid-19 in Indonesia is high, Reisa said.

"Don't get it wrong, we have to be sad that the number of children's death caused by Covid-19 in Indonesia is really high compared to other countries. So, we have to be careful in taking care of our children, teach them the health measures," she explained.

4. Covid-19 Vaccine Replaces Health Protocols

Reisa deplored the information saying that health protocols in preventing Covid-19 can be ignored once you get the vaccine. She said that the people got the wrong idea about vaccination as she explained that it cannot make the body immune to the disease 100 percent. Vaccine is part of the attempts to protect the body from being infected, besides implementing health measures.

5. Consuming Eucalyptus Oil will Heal One from Covid-19

Reisa said that consuming the oil will instead damage the body and have the potential for new illnesses.

6. Covid-19 Survivors Have Optimal Immunity

Lastly, Reisa commented on the myth saying that the immunity of those who had infected with the virus was better than those who were vaccinated. She said that the immune formed in the bodies of Covid survivors maybe different from one another.

"It can be weak or optimal. But the best is actually from the vaccine as the protection level has been measured according to the recommendation, so it is optimal," said Reisa Broto Asmoro. "Especially if the symptoms are weak. The antibody is not so optimal as expected and it won't last long like the vaccine does."
