How to Properly Dispose Medical Mask Waste

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wearing masks has become an essential thing in our daily lives, as an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19. However, there have been growing problems related to the use of masks, such as the medical waste.
A medical mask is a non reusable mask, meaning that it can only be used once and cannot be used multiple times. According to the Ministry of Health, medical masks can provide around 30-95 percent protection from the Covid-19. In addition to that, the medical mask disposal has to be done carefully to prevent the virus from spreading.
Here's how to properly dispose medical masks according to the Ministry of Health:
1. Tear off the medical mask by cutting it on the rope or tearing the mask in the middle. This is necessary to prevent masks from being reused by irresponsible people.
2. Put the mask to be disposed of into a transparent plastic bag and throw the mask into the trash. This is useful to make it easier for officers to manage medical waste.
3. Collect used masks and disinfect them. Disinfection can be done by soaking used masks in chlorine solution.
