TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defendant of PCR swab test false information case and former leader of defunct group FPI, Rizieq Shihab, had been given a court verdict of 4 years imprisonment by the East Jakarta district court.
The court deemed Shihab guilty of spreading false information and causing public disruption. The court also charged court fees to the former FPI leader which cost merely Rp5,000.
The East Jakarta District Court panel of judges on June 24 announced in court; “Defendant Muhammad Rizieq bin Hiusein Syihab or Habib Muhammad Rizieq Shihab proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing the crime.”
In the judge’s deliberation, Rizieq Shihab had contributed to the public disruption but deemed the defendant’s knowledge, and family ties, on religion is still needed for society.
Facing his sentencing, Rizieq Shihab said there are a number of aspects that he does not accept, one of them being the forensic key witness who was never introduced in the trials. “I reject the verdict and file an appeal against it,” he said. The court verdict is lower than the prosecutor’s claim.
