TEMPO.CO, JakartaTourist destinations are allowed to open during this year’s Eid al-Fitr holidays albeit the government banned Eid homecoming or locally known mudik. The government of Raja Ampat, West Papua, also decided to open tourist sites in the region on conditions.

Raja Ampat Tourism Office Head Yusdi Lamatenggo said domestic tourists and local people in the areas can visit the tourist attractions in the regency. People from outside Papua and foreign tourists who have been in the region before the mudik ban which takes effect on May 6-17 are allowed to have a trip.

“Tourists from outside Papua, for example, Jakarta, and foreign tourists who have been in Raja Ampat regency during the Eid holidays are free to travel as long as they comply with the health protocols determined by the local government,” said Yusdi on Monday, May 3, 2021.

Even though the tourist sites are opened, tourist boats from outside Papua willing to enter Raja Ampat during the ban period are still prohibited.

In this year’s Eid al-Fitr holidays, the government decided to bar mudik in a bid to curb Covid-19 transmission. Tourist sites, however, can be opened under strict health protocols. People are prohibited from visiting tourist destinations outside of their domicile.
