TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rising number of Covid-19 cases in Java and Bali forced the government to impose social restrictions next week, particularly from January 11-25, 2021.
“We emphasize that this restriction does not mean a ban on activities, but rather a limitation,” said Airlangga Hartarto, the Covid-19 Mitigation and National Economic Recovery Committee Chairman, in a press conference in State Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021.
Regions that must impose the restriction include all areas of Jakarta and West Java regions, namely Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Depok City, Bekasi Regency, Bekasi City, Bandung City, West Bandung Regency, and Cimahi Regency.
Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, and South Tangerang City must also restrict people’s mobility.
The restriction will also take effect in Semarang, Solo, and Banyumas of Central Java, Gunung Kidul, Sleman, and Kulon Progo of Yogyakarta; Malang and Surabaya of East Java, as well as Denpasar City and Badung Regency of Bali.
The social restriction, Airlangga explained, will include 75 percent work-from-home policy, online learning activities, limited operating hours of shopping centers until 7 p.m., limited capacity of restaurants and houses of worship to 25 percent and 50 percent respectively followed by strict health protocols implementation.
“Public facilities and social-culture activities will be halted temporarily. The capacity and operating hours of public transportation are also readjusted,” Airlangga said.
