TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States President Donald Trump has congratulated President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo for Indonesia’s 75th anniversary of independence on August 17.
In his message, Trump mentioned the “common values and deep people-to-people connections” both democratic countries share and called for achieving a “truly free and open Indo-Pacific region.” The U.S. president also talked about deepening partnerships to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

By working together to advance our mutual interests based on these shared democratic values, I am confident that we can achieve a truly free and open Indo-Pacific region.
