TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim) together with the customs and excise directorate general foiled a drug smuggling attempt involving 159 kilograms of crystal meth, 3,000 ecstasy pills, and 300 H5 pills.
Police said the international drug traffickers have made use of the current situation hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The crystal meth was delivered as food and staple commodities to fool officials, using the current COVID-19 situation,” said General Commissioner Listyo Sigit on Thursday’s press conference, June 25.
The drug bust was able to be done after police arrested another suspect identified as ES in Bekasi. At the time ES was arrested with 35 kilograms of meth as evidence.
The drug traffickers utilized a ship-to-ship scheme to deliver the narcotics from Malaysia to be distributed across Sumatra and in the Greater Jakarta Area.
