TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The criminal acts of a drug syndicate attempting to smuggle 500 kilograms of Aceh-sourced marijuana was cut short at the Port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta after their acts were caught red-handed by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on August 12.
“Based on their confession, this was the third time [smuggling drugs],” said agency's deputy of eradication Ir. Gen, Arman Depari at Tanjung Priok on Monday.
He says the suspects used a new smuggling style in the three times they conducted their criminal acts. “They would transport in large quantities in the hundreds of kilograms, and this one was the largest,” he said.
The anti-drug agency arrested four suspects who are linked to the case which was sent from Aceh through Bangka Island with the end destination in Jakarta. The suspects initially intended to distribute the 445 drug packages in the capital city and across other regions in Java Island.
