TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism Agency on Monday has officially closed Riau Province’s popular tourism site Sungai Hijau (green river) after one of its visitors had later tested positive for COVID-19. The agency later confirmed that the closure was enacted by two district administrations’ COVID-19 task force.
“It’s closed until further notice,” said Riau’s Tourism Agency Head, Raja Yoserizal to ANTARA on June 8. “The park’s management were able to accept the decision.”
As reported last week, a Riau Island native was declared the 118th confirmed COVID-19 case and had a history of visiting the Sungai Hijau on May 26th and 28th, and continued to roam Pekanbaru City. The patient has been admitted to the Arifin Achmad General Hospital (RSUD).
The region’s task force immediately commenced contact tracing on the patient’s past history and had conducted PCR tests on individuals coming into contact with the individual.
Sungai Hijau can only be reopened after an official recommendation from the Health Agency deems it safe to continue opening the tourism site for the public. However, Yoserizal revealed that many tour site organizers had not abided by correct COVID-19 health protocols as the region did not extend its large-scale social restriction (PSBB).
