TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. in a press release on Tuesday assured that there have been no Indonesians in the list of injuries caused by the nationwide protests against the death of George Floyd, an American who died after being forcefully pinned down by a police officer in an arrest.
Deputy Ambassador Iwan Freddy Hari Susanto said that the embassy continues to monitor the increasingly heated development surrounding the protests that have gone out of hand in several U.S. states.
The embassy also announced that it continues to closely communicate with Indonesian communities spread across the United States such as the Indonesian Student Association (PPI).
“There are a total of 142,441 Indonesians currently in the U.S. who are all in good condition. There have been zero reports of Indonesians being affected by the demonstrations,” Iwan wrote on Tuesday.
He also said that the embassy had called for every Indonesian staying in the United States to limit their outdoor activities unless it's an emergency and to remain calm.
Protesters have taken to the streets across reportedly 40 states which have entered its seventh day. Along with the solidarity movement for the late George Floyd, there have been riots and widespread looting that forced the United States government to issue a curfew.
