COVID-19 Task Force Focuses on Ensuring PSBB Effectiveness

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - COVID-19 national task force spokesman Achmad Yurianto announced Friday that the government was keeping a close watch on the implementation of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).
Yurianto said the PSBB could only remain effective if coupled with massive testings, active contact-tracing, and isolating those deemed as potential victims of the virus.
“Only then can it reduce the number of new cases and suppress the death rate,” said Yurianto at Friday’s press conference.
He noted that the idea behind the PSBB was to greatly reduce people’s mobility, which in turn is hoped to break the chain of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission.
Despite the restrictions, the COVID-19 task force spokesman said many public activities remained limited during the PSBB, and that the social restrictions would only allow public activities relative to the fulfillment of basic needs and the operations of logistics and healthcare services.
