TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Djoko Setijowarno, asserts that it is critical for the government to anticipate large social mobilization across bus terminals as the ban against the annual homecoming tradition of ‘mudik’ is about to be imposed on April 24.
“It needs to be anticipated in terminals right now. Each and every bus firms must be required to enter the terminal,” said Djoko today. “A massive social mobilization via public transport needs to be monitored.”
Before the ban is imposed on April 24, police cannot enforce punishments for those who are traveling from urban to rural areas. Djoko said that officials at bus terminals could at least register the personal identities of the people who are committing ‘mudik.’
The records of the registered people would then be sent to the local administrations where the travelers are destined to arrive at. He also encourages people to commit to a 14-day self-quarantine once they arrive at their destination.
