TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan praised President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's role in integrating transportation in Jakarta.
"This is possible to happen since President Jokowi was once a Jakarta Governor so he knows well [about transportation issues in the capital]," Anies said in a seminar in Ancol, North Jakarta, Saturday, Feb. 22.
The governor viewed that the spatial planning and transportation management, as well as the development, should be integrated.
Anies pointed out the train management that is currently governed by the Jakarta Administration from previously managed by the central government. He said it will ease the integration between the train and other modes of transportation.
It will eventually make the people starting to turn to public transportation, he added, saying that it is proven from the increase of Transjakarta passengers from averagely 380,000 to 900,000 per day.
"It even reached 1 million passengers in just one day, yesterday. This is due to the good integration between the transportation modes and the ticketing, everything is connected," Anies Baswedan remarked.
