President Jokowi Orders Draft Criminal Code to be Postponed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has ordered the House of Representatives (DPR) to postpone the discussion of the RUU KUHP or revision of the criminal code Bill. The Bill had been met with resistance from members of the public for the past week.
"After considering many inputs that came to me, I decide that there are substances within the law that need to be further studied," said the former Jakarta governor in a press conference on Friday, September 20, 2019.
The president announced he had ordered the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly to inform the executive decision to members of the House.
"The enacment of the RUU KUHP must be postponed and must not be enacted by this term's House Legislators," said the President who expects Legislators to share the same sentiment and let the next term legislators discuss the Bill.
President Jokowi says that Minister Yasonna Laoly has been ordered to gather as many inputs from multiple society groups in order to perfect the Criminal Code Bill.
