TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner Alexander Marwata lauded the General Election Commission (KPU) for releasing the list of former corruption convicts who is running as legislative candidates in the 2019 Election. According to him, the list will be a public reference for voters to cast a ballot for a clean and honest people’s representative.
“That’s great, the public can be informed to choose [candidate] who is clean and honest,” said Alex in his office, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 30.
KPU chairman Arief Budiman mentioned there are 49 ex-corruptors from various parties running as legislative candidates. 40 of them registered in the People's Representative Council (DPRD) of a province and regency/city, while the rest in the Regional Legislative Council (DPD). Among DPRD legislative candidate, 12 out of 16 political parties carried out former corruptor convicts.
The parties are Gerindra (6 candidates), Golkar (4), Berkarya (4), Hanura (5), Democrat (4), PDIP (1), Garuda (2) Perindo (2), PKPI (2), PAN (4), PKS (1), and PBB (1).
Alex explained that the anti-graft body supported KPU for releasing the list since the beginning. KPU representatives earlier had visited KPK to discuss the matter, he added.
According to Alex, the announcement of the list of ex-corruptors who are running the legislative election is not aimed at humiliating the candidates, yet providing facts to the public.
