TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has made an investment in the human resources sector in Indonesia since 2015 by establishing training for small, medium enterprises (SMEs), students, and developers.

“We set a target to train 100,000 developers in Indonesia until 2020. But, we announce that we have reached the target two years earlier, we start it since 2016 by holding the training for 110,000 developers,” said Google Indonesia managing director Randy Mandrawan Jusuf Tuesday, December 4, at Google for Indonesia event in Ciputra Artpreneur in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

More than 50 percent of Indonesian people, Randy explained, had access to the internet. Moreover, due to the rapid development of the digital economy and the rise of startups in the country, Google has become a part of digital transformations in Indonesia.

“We have collaborated with universities to support students to create applications, trained 1 million businesses, and we set a target to train 1 million more entrepreneurs until 2020. Local business contributes more than a half of the gross domestic product (GDP) in Indonesia,” Randy noted.

According to Google Indonesia marketing head Veronica Utami, Google also initiated digital literacy program, including investing US$875,000 from its philanthropy organization, Google.org, for Maarif Institute, Peace Generation, RuangGuru Foundation, Love Frankie, and Cameo Project.

“The fund is earmarked to train 12,000 students to encourage them as the agent of tolerance, multiculturalism, and positive values, as well as to form interactive curriculums to support students in creating good creative contents,” Veronica remarked.
