October`s Trade Deficit Jumps on High Oil, Gas Imports: BPS

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Indonesia`s trade balance in October was at a deficit of US$1.82 billion. The Central Statistics Agency`s (BPS) chief Suhariyanto said the deficit was due to high imports from the oil and gas sector during the month.
"The deficit of US$1.82 billion came from an oil and gas deficit of US$1.4 billion and non-oil and gas deficit of US$393 million," Suhariyanto said at a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, November 15.
Suhariyanto said oil and gas imports in the period amounted to US$2.9 billion, while oil and gas exports only reached US$1.48 billion.
Overall, the PS recorded an export value of US$15.8 billion and imports of US$17.6 billion in October 2018.
From January to October 2018, the total trade balance deficit was recorded at US$5.5 billion; with US$150.8 billion worth of exports and US$156.3 billion imports.
