TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the government was striving to understand changes in trends in the era of the digital economy. One of the concerns that must be comprehended was business in the digital era.

“We have sessions in a bid to comprehend their business models to draft fiscal policy, especially concerning tax and customs,” she said in Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta, Thursday, November 15.

According to Sri Mulyani, the government must understand the formula of a policy on tax, either on Value-Added Tax (VAT) or Income Tax (PPh) in the digital era that has no limit.

Besides, the government must review its regulations, thus micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in digital platforms could run its business without a hitch. “We continue to make collaborations to create initial bases of policies on the financial sector in a bid to understand the digital era. We keep improving this matter,” the minister noted.

Another issue the government currently concerns is the transformation of conventional business into digital business as its disruption possibly triggers negative changes, related to employment or changes in the company.

“It’s different than entrepreneurs in the digital era, those unicorns can even attract huge capital from the global,” Sri said.

Therefore, Sri Mulyani continued, the government attempts to formulate policies that conventional industry can adapt to the changing era. Thus, the impact comes from the changes towards the public, especially workers in the industry, can be reduced as low as possible.
