TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential election number 02 Sandiaga Uno started his campaign today, November 13 in South Sumatra by visiting 26 Ilir Market. Accompanied by Zulkifli Hasan and PAN sec-gen Eddy Soeparno, Sandiaga tried Palembang typical dish, mi celor (noodle soup with coconut milk).
Sandiaga said culinary business is one of the ways to drive the economy considering each Indonesian city has a culinary spot such as 26 Ilir Market. “This is potential to provide and create job employment,” said Sandiaga via a text message released by his media team to Tempo today, November 13.
As a businessman, Sandi claimed culinary business, especially those that capable to survive until dozens of years, did not beset by the economic recession. The former Jakarta deputy governor predicted the culinary industry would get stronger in the next years. “Culinary will be an excellent business.”
Last October, in an interview with reporters in Lapangan Bulungan, South Jakarta, Sandiaga disclosed his mission to try traditional dishes during his campaign visit throughout Indonesian regions in a bid to support regional culinary business.
Sandiaga Uno`s opinion was seconded by statement conveyed by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya. Culinary business in several regions grew in line with the hike of tourist arrivals which was a huge contribution to the state's income in the creative economy sector.
According to Arief, based on the ministry’s data, a total of 30 to 40 percent of tourist expenditure was allocated for the culinary tour, and that triggered culinary industry development. The government, he added, was currently strengthening the culinary sector as one of the tourist attractions other than nature, culture, and artificial sites.
