Anies Baswedan Discloses 30 Jakarta Areas Prone to Floods

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan discloses 30 areas prone to floods in the capital ahead of the rainy season. “There are more than 30 flood-prone areas which are now tightly and intensively monitored,” said Anies in the City Hall in Central Jakarta, Monday, November 12.


Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency announce data of 30 city areas susceptible to floods through an Instagram account of Jakarta Smart City, @jsclounge. The data is obtained from the Jakarta Water Agency.


The government recorded 30 areas prone to floods in five regions of the capital, four points in Central Jakarta, 13 in South Jakarta, 4 in East Jakarta, 4 in West Jakarta, and 3 in North Jakarta.

Anies Baswedan said his administration is currently preparing a program called vertical drainage to prevent flooding, by guiding rainwater to drain into the ground.


“We will kick-off the program in the near time, it is now being tested in several points. We will explain it later when it is finished,” said Anies Baswedan in the edge of Ciliwung River in Condet, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 11.
