Zero Percent DP Program Deemed as a Gimmick by APERSI

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Housing Development Association (APERSI) chairman Junaidi Abdillah deemed Jakarta`s latest housing program dubbed the ‘zero percent down payment’ as a mere trick to attract consumers.
Junaidi maintained that every house purchase would need a down payment, which he said is also adopted by the zero percent program by including it in the monthly installment.
“I personally think that the zero percent down-payment (DP) program is merely a gimmick. The fact is that the DP still exists in the form of monthly installments,” said Junaidi following a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla today, Nov. 8.
However, he said that the APERSI dully supports Central Government’s housing program which intends to provide habitable houses for state employees, apparatus, and members of Indonesian authorities.
“There’s no problem with that. We support it, even if it’s a zero percent or one percent DP program, we’ll support it,” said Junaidi.
The APERSI chairman stated that a low down payment on subsidized houses, which in itself is already cheap, does not pose any burden to its buyers since it is basically not commercial houses, which has a fairly more expensive monthly installment.
