TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Home Affairs who is the politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Tjahjo Kumolo, did not question the appointment of legal expert Yusril Ihza Mahendra as the legal counsel for Joko Widodo or Jokowi-Ma`ruf Amin.

“Even though he criticizes the government, in certain cases, he has idealism and he is objective. So it is not an extraordinary problem,” Tjahjo said at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 7.

According to Tjahjo, Yusril can sort out which are political interests and which are not. “He is a person who has principles; an idealist,” he said, adding that he was not surprised when Yusril was set as Jokowi-Maruf's legal counsel.

Previously, Yusril officially declared as the legal counsel for the presidential and vice-presidential candidate Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin in the 2019 Presidential Election.

Yusril was willing to become a legal counsel because of an invitation from the Chairman of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf National Campaign Team, Erick Tohir.

“After a long discussion, I told Pak Erick that I finally agree to become their (Jokowi-Ma'ruf) legal counsel,” Yusril told reporters on Monday, November 5.
