TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The implementation of vehicle restrictions through odd-even policy became an alternative way to deal with the traffic congestion in Puncak route, Bogor Regency, West Java Province. The Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) head Bambang Prihartono expected to solve the issue before the end of 2018.
“It’s possible to apply the odd-even policy in Puncak route, that is such a good suggestion. As for the recommendation on alternative routes, we still coordinate it with the Public Work and Housing (PUPR) Ministry,” said Bambang via a phone call with Tempo, Tuesday, October 2. “Within near time, we must find a solution.”
According to him, Bogor Resort Police, West Java Police, and Bogor administration had delivered several options to alleviate the congestion in the Puncak route, including the application of odd-even policy.
Bambang noted the government would provide feeder buses for tourists should the regulation applied for private vehicles. The Transportation Ministry would later coordinate with Bogor administration regarding the bus provisions.
Meanwhile, the ministry’s land director general Budi Setiadi touched on the one-way traffic policy which first took effect by the time the Safari Park opened and that extended until today. However, the increasing vehicle numbers in Puncak route was not in line with the infrastructure development.
“It is now the time for the city or regional administration to think [about the solution of traffic density], don’t wait until Puncak route getting more crowded,” Budi remarked.
