TEMPO.CO, Purwakarta - Vice presidential candidate number 01 Ma`ruf Amin has pledged to create Indonesia free of ideology conflict by 2024 should he and Joko `Jokowi` Widodo elected in the presidential election next year.

“No more conflict of ideology by 2024. We will back to the basic, the foundation, [which is] Pancasila,” said Ma’ruf during his visit in Islamic Boarding School Al Muhajirin, Purwakarta, West Java, Wednesday, October 3.

According to Ma’ruf, radical beliefs such as caliphate must be eliminated in Indonesia because Pancasila is the country’s ideology since it proclaimed for independence.

“For the nationalist, Pancasila is a religious nationality. For Muslim community, Pancasila is a tawhid (oneness concept of monotheism in Islam) nationality,” Ma’ruf Amin noted.

When asked about whether caliphate (a political system in Islam) is Islamic teachings or not, Ma’ruf Amin answered yes. “However, Indonesia is a republic country. We did not reject the caliphate, but it was already rejected as it violates the agreement,” he underlined.

The attempt to develop Indonesia as an Islamic state had occurred and peak in the 1950s by Darul Islam or Tentara Islam Indonesia (DI/TII). Ma’ruf Amin determined to support Jokowi solve the diversity issue related to the nation’s ideology if elected.

He mentioned the two ideology of the Republic of Indonesia should not be argued. Moreover, the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila did not oppose the Islamic values.
