TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ratna Sarumpaet admitted that she lied about having been assaulted. The female activist said that the bruises on her face were the effect of a liposuction procedure that she underwent ina surgical hospital.

"I plead that what I am telling you today can end the commotion that has happened over the last two days, and that we can forgive each other," she said with a trembling voice.

She then revealed that what actually happened on September 21--the day she claimed to have been assaulted--was that she visited a surgical where she met a plastic surgeon, dr. Sidiq Miharja.

"I came to undergo liposuction procedures for both my cheeks," she said.

Following the operation, Ratna said she woke up with bruises and swells on her face, which was unusual for her.

But then she was told that it was a normal side effect after the procedure.

"So I am telling this now to refute reports that there was an assault," Ratna Sarumpaet remarked.
