TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) head Bambang Brodjonegoro said his office was currently preparing the regional planning after the devastating earthquake hit Palu, Central Sulawesi on last September 28.

“Yes, we are currently drafting the regional planning for Palu after the emergency responses,” Bambang said in JCC, Senayan, Wednesday, October 3.

Earlier, Syarif Burhanuddin, Director General of Construction in the Public Work and Housing (PUPR) Ministry, said the government would immediately build hundred of houses for disaster victims in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi.

The construction would involve a number of state-owned enterprises, members of Indonesian Construction Association (AKI). The house model would be similar to the one in quake-hit Lombok, which was quake-proof house dubbed Risha (Healthy Modest Instantaneous House).

The PUPR Ministry would focus on post-disaster handling in Palu and the vicinity with four main strategies, namely victims evacuation, provision of clear water and sanitation infrastructure and facilitation, city cleaning from building debris, and communication network.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) recorded the death toll from devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi reached 1,234 people as of Tuesday, October 2, at 1 p.m. BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the figure was expected to keep climbing considering the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) was still searching for victims.
