TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo called on the society not to be affected by politicians whom he considered commonly lured people to create an issue on unsubstantial matters.

“That’s what a politician good at, persuading people. So, don’t be influenced [by politician],” said Jokowi in his speech when opening a forum at State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, September 20.

For example, Jokowi mentioned the last worthless issue that became public limelight when a stuntman acted as himself for extreme scene video in the opening ceremony of 2018 Asian Games. Meanwhile, there were other subjects should have been brought up such as the athlete participation for the country.

“We usually highlight unsubstantial issues that should not be debated. That’s enough,” Jokowi underlined.

Indonesia, Jokowi explained, has powerful sources should all party willing to unite. He pinned hope the upcoming election would not destroy the social harmony.

“We must maintain our unity and harmony, don’t let the election to vote mayor, regent, governor, or president that takes place once in every five years ruin social relations,” President Jokowi added.
