TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said the projection data on rice production issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) often missed.
“The party that has the instrument to make the data is the Ministry of Agriculture. (Kementan data) misses every year. It is said to be corrected, but the data come out again,” Darmin said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office, Jakarta, Wednesday night, September 20.
According to Darmin, those who have the data related to the estimated number of rice production are the Kementan and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).
The accuracy of the data is important because it also influences government policies, for example related to imports. The data highlighted by Darmin were 13.7 million tons in the first three months of 2018.
In detail, the number consists of 2.5 million tons in January 2018, 4.7 million tons in February 2018, and 6.5 million tons in March 2018.
Darmin said that the stock of medium and premium rice had only 590,000 tons left, or decreased from the stock of 903,000 tons as of January 15.
“It is said (in March 2018) there is 6.5 million tons of production projection. Indeed, the stock increased to 649,000 tons, but nothing. The harvest will run out, who believes that this will be fine in the future,” Darmin said.
