KPU: Regional Heads Can Join Presidential Campaign Team

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan said that regional heads could become a member of the presidential campaign team, at the national and regional level, as long as they obey the rules. However, the regional heads are not allowed to be the campaign team leader.
“If [they] become the leader of the campaign team, they'll run out of their time, energy and mind. What about their duty?” Wahyu said at the Cemara 19 post, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 18.
Until today, there are eight governors who openly stated their support for Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Ma’ruf Amin.
They are the governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, governor of East Nusa Tenggara Viktor Laiskodat, governor of South Sulawesi Nurdin Abdullah, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster, governor of Southeast Sulawesi Ali Mazi, governor of West Kalimantan Sutarmidji, and Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.
In the Jokowi and Ma’ruf National Campaign Team (TKN), these regional heads will be the territorial directors.
The KPU commissioner reminded that based on the rules, the regional heads who are participating in a campaign may not use their office facilities.
